**First of all, I highly recommend the book we have used on this journey. It is called "Kids Love to Travel and we have the Virginia version. It is broken into states and down by areas of the state. It is then in alpha order. It has been a GREAT resource. It is written by a great homeschooling family that RV fulltime.**
If you would like to start at the beginning, you can click on Day 1, Day 2, Day 3.
Today we got up a little later than usual. We ate breakfast, checked out of the hotel, etc. On our way up, we traveled and stopped at Fredricksburg Battlefield.
(Original retaining wall used for protection)
Very interesting. It is actually part of 4 battlefields, including Chancelorsville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg. They still had an original part of the wall left from the battle which was interesting. Also there were houses that were in between union and confederate forces that didn't leave and helped to house the wounded and even sacrificed their own lives to help them. One of the houses is still standing the other is not. The one house still standing has bullet holes all throughout the walls and door (which is in the main part of the center).
We then made an effort to Chancelorsville. We were able to see the place in which Stonewall Jackson was shot and the treck he had to make before falling and collapsing. There is also a monument documenting this. This battle was called "Lee's masterpiece".
We found a Walmart and a Krispy Kreme :o) on our way out and headed north. We finally found our condo around 5 pm.
We got in unloaded in our condo, and was able to meet and greet with Aaron's cousin. He is the youngest son of his dad's identical twin brother. We have never met his wife and their baby. It was great to see them. They are both lawyers here.
Tomorrow we are going to Alexandria (Mt Vernon and other things) and Arlington Natl Cemetery. It is very cold. Supposed to get into the teens tonight and be windy.
