"I have made some terrible mistakes in the past, but whether I have done wrong or right I've carried on. I am now about to sit down and remember, start writing and decide how deeply I'm prepared to go. "

Julie Andrews

One thing about me is the fact that I LOVE LOVE LOVE Julie Andrews! Have since I was a little girl. She is a timeless classic. Her career spans many years and she has done it with grace. So when our oldest son came runnning in with an article on Julie saying that she would be in Atlanta, I was longing to go. My mom, who is also a huge Julie Andrews Fan, also wanted to go. We checked into tickets and decided to go, just the two of us. We were SO excited.

We got there, and to my dissapointment, they took my camera. (I got it back). Looking on the website and other places (and having taking pictures of the ASO before) I didn't think it was an issue. I LOVE pictures, so that was hard on me. BUT there is a photogallery from that night HERE!

Julie came out in a beautiful tafeta and lavendar gown! She is just radiant (and 73 years young, I might add!) She was there to celebrate Rogers and Hammerstein and to introduce her new book with music. She was accompanied by 5 "Broadwayesque" men and women. Julie sang a "little bit" and can only sing below a middle c. She came out to a rousing standing ovation. (btw, besides a few babies and a couple of children, I think I was the youngest one there, lol). She talked about her journey throughout her career and through the careers of Rogers and Hammerstein. She highlighted songs from Camelot, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Cinderella (her live performance on TV), My Fair Lady and a few others. She finished the first portion by ending with this(with everyone singing along of course):

Her second portion was featuring her book (that she wrote with her daughter), Simeon's Gift. The conductor had composed music to go along with it and it was performed (in a musical style) while Julie narrated the book. At the beginning of the concert, she and the announcer mentioned that she would have a "surprise later". I held onto that. While some started to leave, thinking it was over, I knew there was something else. Sure enough, she came out and started singing this:

I wished I could have seen more! This was one in a lifetime chance and what a wonderful one it was!!!

Aw, this sounds absolutely amazing. I was so sad that I couldn't go to this. I've always said that if she ever came as close as Altanta I'd go, but it wasn't possible this weekend. Boohoo.

Sorry you couldn't take pictures, that would've been neat. :)

Wow, singing Edelweiss must have been quite a treat. Gave me goosebumps just reading/thinking about it.

I really want to see her in person someday.

Have you read her new autobiography?

I haven't read her new autobiography yet but I will, of course. She is the epidomy of class and radiance.

How exciting! Our oldest daughter always says that one day she will make Julie Andrews adopt her. lol I bet the evening was just wonderful. She is so graceful, isn't she? Society just doesn't appreciate that anymore. Oh I long for the days when women were encouraged to be graceful and manners were something to be appreciated. I think I need to go buy some stationary and some good linens for the table. :)
